Skeptic Bible Study: Jesus Loves Slavery
http://www.godvsthebible.com
In other news about the Bible’s moral bankruptcy, the Bible gives the nod to the practice of slavery. The OT Bible regulates the practice of slavery. The NT admonishes slaves to obey their masters. Jesus often uses slaves in his parables and even endorses the practice of beating them. Here is a book said to be “The Word of God” and yet it fails to offer sound moral guidance on what is perhaps the biggest “no brainer” of moral issues.

The punishment for killing your slave is your own death, BTW you are a complete joke!

Remember to beat your slaves with rods!

@DeistPaladin hahaha, I knew you’d say that lol. We are servants, but if you are so wise, continue and be a slave in hell, because the devil is controling you right now.
@PhoenixArmor Quite …

@unwinsis “You can …
@unwinsis “You can throw out all the old testament quotes as Jesus came to fulfill the old law, thus releasing the people from it.”
Try reading Matthew 5:17.
What you said is just an excuse people make to justify things that sound wrong in the bible. I’m not saying that it’s you that’s making excuses; you may have been told that by someone else. I’m just asserting that Jesus did not come to release people from the laws of the Old Testament.
You can throw out …
You can throw out all the old testament quotes as Jesus came to fulfill the old law, thus releasing the people from it. The other quotes are from Paul and they are directed at slaves, not slave owners. The majority of converts were slaves, and the feeling of empowerment from the new faith was setting the stage for a slave rebellion. This was at a time when Christians were being heavily persecuted by Rome, and a slave revolt would have been premature to say the least.

@xtrashed
This was and is precisely the nature of slavery. In antiquity slavery was also a matter on nationality: Being the citizen of a conquered town or a member of a army who lost a battle was in the most cases the short track into slavery.
When Jesus lived the Roman Law setup the rules for slavery. A slave was the property of his owner and the master could kill a slave at his pleasure. When Paul defended slavery, he defended the Roman Law, which was the law of the time.
So: No excuses.

“Today, slavery is …
“Today, slavery is typcially about nationality or race. Owners of slaves consider their “property” to be inferior human beings”
No it isn’t, you kook; it’s about whoever had luck in the third world and ended up on the receiving end of an AK-47. The majority of black African slaves in the 21st century are held by black Africans, and unless you contend that they think their own race is inferior, I encourage you to distance yourself from Civil War/pop-culture images of slavery.
this is the method …
this is the method presented in the bible you coward. stop making excuses and read before you speak. slaves were property in the bible. they were owned, boguh and sold and inheritaded. and thy were from other nations. “Hethan” or “evil” buying slaves as property was only frowned upon if you bought another hebrew, but even that was not outlawed.
@ xtrashed. im sick …
@ xtrashed. im sick of christians using the bullshit excues. owning another human being as property, permanenty passing them down to your children is wrong. there is a big diference between paying off a debt with service and becoming property. or being forced into labor by a neighboring country. what would be the point of beating a slave to near death? what happended to love and non violence? people are just scared to admit the bible has errors because it turns your world upside down.
The Hebrews were …
The Hebrews were slaves in the Bible, specifally because of their race and God helped them escape.
“In days to come, when your son asks you, ‘What does this mean?’ say to him, ‘With a mighty hand the LORD brought us out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.” – Exodus 13:14
Today, slavery is …
Today, slavery is typcially about nationality or race. Owners of slaves consider their “property” to be inferior human beings. This method of slavery is wrong. The plagues that God sent to Egypt are examples of how He feels about racial slavery. These were written out in the book of Exodus.
He came to teach …
He came to teach and “be” the gospel, enunciated in the Sermon on the Mount and expanded on in his ministry, and demonstrated in his salvific action. he left if for us to internalize, believe and act on his message since it is we who are to further the kingdom on earth. he came to change individual hearts, not political systems.
A simple answer is …
A simple answer is to why Jesus didn’t change slavery was because Jesus’ mission was not to overturn the system by political action, which abolition of slavery would be, nor did he come to liberate those under Roman rule, which the Jews expected, nor did he come to establish “social justice” or “liberation theology”.
The New Testament …
The New Testament expressly forbids both the slave trade and slavery itself. “.the Law is made not for the righteous but for Law breakers.for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers, for adulterers and perverts, for slave traders and liars and perjurers.” 1 Timothy 1:9-10
When we read the Bible we must use the exegezis.
We must consider the context of time when that or that statement was proclaimed.
When slaves were …
When slaves were freed they were given ample grain, wine, and livestock [Dt 15:12-15]. If a wife was neglected she was automatically freed [Ex 21:10-11]. Gentiles were to be treated and loved the same way as Israelites [Lev 19:33-34]. The list goes on. The problem many have with the Bible is gross misinterpretation. You need to research the Bible verses properly, for full understanding.
Killing a slave was …
Killing a slave was punishable [Ex 21:20], runaway slaves were for all intents and purposes free [Dt 23:15-16], permanently injured slaves were emancipated [Ex 21:26-27], and all slaves were freed anyway after six years of service [Ex 21:2; Dt 15:12] or every 50th year [Lev 25:10,47-54].
Slavery in Biblical …
Slavery in Biblical times were very different from the slavery that was practiced in the past few centuries in many parts of the world. The slavery in the Bible was not based exclusively on race nationality or the colour of their skin. In Bible times, slavery was more of a social status. In New Testament times, sometimes doctors, lawyers, and even politicians were slaves of someone else. Some people actually chose to be slaves so as to have all their needs provided for.
